Many Glacier Zest

The dramatic light in Many Glacier never gets old. I painted this view first on location, watching the last light ignite the mountains in brilliant orange while the valleys dropped into deep blue shadow and a tiny crescent moon appeared overhead. Those fleeting moments are exactly why I love plein air painting—you have to be there, paying attention, when the landscape suddenly puts on a show. I returned to that plein air experience to create this larger studio painting for my solo exhibition, pushing the contrast and color to capture just how extraordinary that evening felt.
