Lake Josephine Cerulean Blues

This is one of my favorite plein air painting spots in Many Glacier, and I don't think I'll ever get over these colors. Lake Josephine can turn an almost unbelievable turquoise-blue in the summer light, surrounded by deep evergreens and layers of cool blue mountains. I love the little trail winding along the shoreline, inviting you into the scene and toward whatever might be around the bend. I returned to this favorite view for the larger studio painting created for my solo exhibition, pushing the color and light while holding onto what stopped me there in the first place: that astonishing Glacier blue.
