Almost Paradise

As the sun slipped behind the mountains at Many Glacier, the landscape transformed into layers of deep blue against a glowing peach-and-gold sky, with the last light reflecting across the lake. I painted this piece en plein air, chasing the color as daylight disappeared. Eventually I was painting by headlamp- which, naturally, turned the whole operation into a bug party! Sometimes staying out for those final fleeting minutes of color is worth every mosquito.
